39 mph and $1 Billion short

Friday afternoons on WRUW FM Cleveland (CWRU's student operated radio station) there is a weekly diatribe show. Today's episode (01/29/2010) lambased the 3C Rail proposal left and right. In doing so it was obvious they knew nothing of what high speed rail has done in Europe and Asia.

Two of the diatribers made comments that lodged in my brain:

Statewide impacts cited of Cincinnati streetcar opposition

An unintended result of this initiative petition is that it would keep Amtrak train services out of the City of Cincinnati, including planned services to Dayton, Columbus and Cleveland. Those trains would have to stop short of Cincinnati, such as in suburban Sharonville and further isolate low-income travelers from using trains whose economy fares are often less than Greyound's.....
